Paraffin’s Dirty Little Secret
(and why we don’t touch it)
Let’s cut through the scented smoke: not all candles are created equal.
If you’ve ever picked up a candle from the supermarket or dropped £25 on a fancy “luxury” brand, chances are you’ve been burning paraffin wax - a petroleum-based product that’s not exactly doing your lungs (or the planet) any favours.

So, what’s the alternative? You guessed it: soy wax - and it’s exactly what we use in every single candle and melt at Cheap Candle Company.
Here’s why we ditched paraffin for good - and why you should too.
Paraffin Wax: Cheap to Make, Not So Nice to Burn
Paraffin wax is a by-product of refining crude oil. Yep - the same process that gives us petrol and diesel. When you burn paraffin candles, they can release toxic chemicals like benzene and toluene, which are known carcinogens.
Not exactly the “relaxing vibes” most people are going for.

Other not-so-cute paraffin facts:

-
It creates black soot that can stain walls and furniture
-
It contributes to indoor air pollution
-
It’s non-renewable and heavily processed
-
And most importantly - it’s often hidden behind words like “premium”, “designer”, or “luxury”
Why We’re Totally Soy About It
We use 100% natural soy wax for one very simple reason: it’s better.
Better for your health. Better for the environment. And with the Cheap Candle Company, better for your bank account.
Here’s the soy-powered glow-up:

-
Clean burning: No toxins, no soot, no dodgy ingredients
-
Longer lasting: Soy burns slower, so your candle goes further
-
Plant-based & renewable: Grown from soybeans, not pumped from oil rigs
-
Vegan & cruelty-free: No animals harmed, ever
-
Better scent throw: Smooth, natural fragrance - no chemical whiff
But If Soy Is Better...Why Isn't Everyone Using It?
Because paraffin is cheap - and big brands love a fat margin.
They might throw in a dash of soy and slap “natural blend” on the label, but it’s often still mostly paraffin.
Don’t be fooled.

At the Cheap Candle Company, we’re not about cutting corners - or charging 30 quid for a jar with a fancy sticker.
We keep it clean, honest, and affordable.
